9 May 2008The government wants the UK to be a nation where innovation can thrive. In a white paper called 'Innovation Nation' they argue that innovation is vital for the UK’s future prosperity.
John Denham, secretary of state for science and innovation, said: "The white paper sets out what government will do to ensure innovation can flourish across every area of our economy - in business, the third sector and in the public sector.
The white paper published by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) details a range of commitments including:
- Growing the Train to Gain and Apprenticeship programmes.
- Giving ‘innovation vouchers’ to small businesses to work with universities, colleges, research organisations.
- Doubling the number of Knowledge Transfer partnerships between businesses, universities and colleges
