Project Name: Cookery work placements in Italy

Catering students from the Royal Forest of Dean College spent three weeks in Italy working alongside experienced Italian chefs on Leonardo Mobility funded work placements.

The students were set tasks such as going into the town and sourcing cheeses, wines and cured meats to learn about the ingredients. They spent two weeks working in a hotel kitchen learning to create Italian delicacies authentically.

Gnocchi"It has definately benefited my career prospects, I've learned so much more that I could have in a classroom alone" says Joshua, a student at Royal Forest of Dean College. "My confidence has grown and now when someone asks who knows how to make gnocchi I'm hte first one to put my hands up and volunteer. I also got to learn some Italian and made some good friends who I keep in touch with. The trip really inspired me"

Amy, another student at the college, says "The people were lovely. Overcoming the language barrier was challenging, but once we did it was an amazing experience both in terms of work and personally. I'm planning to go back to Italy to travel in the summer if I can. It was very exciting and motivated me to do as well as possible at college when I returned".

The students experience was funded through the Leonardo Mobility programme. Find out where Leonardo Mobility funding could take you >>
